Week 29 -Mission Blog

Howsie Doosie,

–Bob Judd asked about you today. He asked what’s your favorite thing to eat there?
My favorite thing to eat here is usually whatever is cheap. Buuut, I found these jelly things from 7/11 for 150en(1$) that are so nice to just snack on. Real food wise probably the pizza or pie I made. Unfortunately, nothing is quite as American as American recipe food. My favorite Japanese food was this homemade zangie(fried chicken) from the branch presidents wife. I’ll be so sad if I don’t get the recipe before leaving Kushiro. Usually certain restaurants are incredible but we don’t often indulge in restaurant food.

– From Mom: I like your newest pics. The pizza looks pretty good. What’s in the square pan though? What is the area on the water? Is that just a river or right by the ocean?
The square pan is lemon pie but for people who cant afford a circular pan(joke, just cant find one). It was your lime pie recipe but with lemons cause limes are rare. The area on the water is what is deemed: one of the most beautiful sunset spots in the world. It is right next to the EGG or evergreen garden. All of my photos have the location metadata attached. Can other people see that? Idk. And yes its a river right by the ocean. Just past those far boats is the ocean. I have more photos I’ll upload from the same day.

This week was a week, ive probably talked about this before but weeks don’t change all that much. I do feel like I can finally get down to the nuances of the language. If I’m not fluent by the end of the mission I’ll be surprised, At the same time, the idea of already being 7 months in is crazy. It doesn’t feel like its been that long in retrospect but in the moment it feels like foreeeever. I’ve made so much baked food recently though, pie, pizza, normal bread, cheezy bread, cookies, french toast cassarole(mom, can I get the normal recipe you make cause this one didn’t turn out like yours. Like… Not nearly the same). I’ve been able to give a lot of it to people and now certain members are coming up to me to be like “do you need more flour?” And I’ll be like… I’ve only used 5 kilos in the past 2 weeks… It’ll probably be fine. I’m planning on slowing down a little though because usually they are big jobs. I’ve been struggling to guess how much the 4 of us eat in any given meal. I suppose hats why missionaries just have the same 4 meals is so its super cheap. But if I plan my own calories to be very cheap then buying ingredients isn’t too much. Especially since I found sweetened condensed milk for 400en a can (2.50?) And pie is soooo good and it was Lowkey super easy to make and I could tell everyone who tried It wanted a ton more. I dunno but seems pretty worth it for just 10$ worth of ingredients.

Spiritual thought:
Idk if you are coming to me for a spiritual thought then I don’t think you’ve spent enough time sitting down and praying for yourself. How am I supposed to know what you’re supposed to read, to learn, or to know. What I do know that you need to know is モーセヤ書１６章。とくに９節。この聖句は私たちに慰めを与えてくれます。イエス・キリストは私たちが頼れる方であるという慰めです。私たちはイエスのようになって生活を向上させ、助けを求めてイエスに頼ることができます。イエスは暗闇の中の光です。
(Mosiah chapter 16, especially verse 9. This scripture gives us comfort—the comfort that Jesus Christ is someone we can rely on. We can strive to become like Jesus, improve our lives, and turn to Him for help. Jesus is the light in the darkness.)

Fun note:
Also according to a deaf guy in our shuwa club, if your car belt breaks then for a short fix for a kilometer or two you can use your real belt and it’ll work. I wouldn’t trust him though, he also just makes shuwa up by playing charades in the middle. Which is Lowkey really fun but not helpful for learning shuwa.
